It’s quite difficult to find a good Easter book, but Easter Surprise is one of them. The words are simple verse and not too complicated which makes it perfect for toddlers. The pictures are bright and lots of fun. It's an Ivy favourite!
ages 8 years and up
This is a truly remarkable book – the sort that makes you gasp and know that it needs to be in your house, on your table and hopefully in the hearts of your family. It’s a refugee story and perhaps a Christmas fable - there’s a mother and a baby, a father and a donkey.
ages 4 to 12 years
I confess that I'm not a big fan of the whole hero culture that we seem to have going. Too often the ‘heroes’ aren’t heroic and are anything but role model material. But Peaceful Heroes is a collection of super-short biographies of people who have impacted the world positively and peacefully.
Mrs Noah watches Noah building an ark in the middle of a drought and does what many a wife has done – smiled indulgently, sniggered a bit about her husband’s eccentricities and continued on her merry way.
But when Noah starts collecting giraffes, Mrs Noah starts thinking and decides that just in case Noah is right she might as well start collecting fruit and vegetable seed and cuttings.
And then she really gets on board!

The story is in idioms from Liberia and it’s beautiful to read. It’s so well told that the rhythm of the words is easy to catch and then it just flows.
