A Banana Is A Banana: a book to get kids thinking about words

Every child anywhere has gone through the ‘Why?’ stage – Why is snow cold? Why is the world round? Why do I have to go to bed? Why can’t I eat dog food? Why? Why? Why? Why? Why? (you never realise how much you don’t know until confronted by a child asking ‘Why?’)

A Banana is a Banana by Justine Clark and Josh Pyke is a book and lively kids song that entertains AND get kids thinking about the words we use and what they really mean. Have you ever considered why a butterfly is called a butterfly even though it’s not made of butter? or other interesting ideas like:

If an eggplant really grew eggs, chickens would be out of a job.

and

If a catfish was really made of cats, then it might get chased by a dog.

If a catfish was really made of cats, then it might get chased by a dog.

A Banana is a Banana is loads of fun and a fabulous kickoff for getting kids thinking about the words we use, why we use them and how they relate.
